Evaluation of final product

After 5 long months of hard work, I have finished my blogging.I'm really proud of the girls and what we done together as a group, we were all motivated and determined to do the best that we could to produce a music video that people could watch on repeat but also following the conventions of a music video. I really enjoyed this coursework unit and got a better understanding on music videos and the products that goes with it.

Final Blogging Task

So after 132 days/3168 hours/190,080 minutes, everything has come to an end! I've enjoyed putting a lot of work into my 103 blog posts. Goodbye!

Final Progress Review Blog

Due to technical difficulties, I am not able to post a vlog to talk about my progress review.

I feel that my A2 blog is much better than my AS blog and I think it is because I had more confidence in using new pieces of technology to present my work better. Also, I think I put a lot more detail into the blogs, and tried to make them look visually pleasing (like my promotional package!).

My 103 blog posts effectively show ALL aspects of my work, from the research stages to the very end. I have explained why I've done certain things, updated any changes and shown the end results of those changes.

If I could change one thing about my blog, I would have attempted to take even more time to get to know other types of apps and technologies to present my work even better than I have done now. But despite that, I am happy with how my blogs have turned out!

Evaluation of final product work: Final blogging task

My blogging has now come to an end and I am very happy. I have tried my best and I have put in a lot of effort and I hope this effort will be reflected in the grade that I will receive. I have enjoyed working on my coursework – it was really fun and I have learnt a lot about both media and team work. I couldn’t have asked for a better group, they were really helpful and we were all determined to produce the best work that we possibly could. I will now focus on the exam unit, revise and achieve a good grade!

Evaluation of finished product work: Final progress review

My A2 blog is much more detailed than my AS blog in terms of detail. Also I have carried out a lot more independent research that I think has really helped me produce my final products. In terms of ICT I have used a wide range of different technologies to make my blog look a lot more appealing and interactive. The blog shows all aspects of the research, planning and production of my advanced portfolio really effectively, there are clear headings and a clear link between the different stages of my production.  There are no gaps in my blogging work because I have blogged consistently and I have made sure I have been meeting deadlines. Overall I think I have produced a large amount of individual blogging entries. If I were to change or give something another opportunity I would have made more vlogs instead of typing up a lot of my blogs. The reason for this is because it would be less time consuming.  Overall I think I’ve done a good job and I have successfully completed all my blogs.

Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Ancillary Products The red tags indicate the conventions of my work, the blue indicate anything I have developed in my designs.

Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation Question 3: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Below is a graph that shows how much technology I used in my blogs during that particular week. I have used ThingLink to pinpoint certain technologies I used during the research, planning and production stages.

I have created a Camtasia video demonstrating how I made certain effects in the post-production stages of my music video in Final Cut Pro.

Here I have created a slidely, showing the steps I took to achieve my background using Photoshop.

Evaluation Question 4: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback (music video + ancillary products)

Music video
The response we got from the cinema trip was good - a good round of applause after it was done. After the whole cinema showing was finished, we asked people what they thought of it.  This is what they said:

  • the performance and mise-en-scene itself was good - matched the tempo of the song
  • the editing was very well done - special effects were popular among the audience and                                                    everything was edited to the beat
  • they especially liked the mix of performance and narrative (and how it was edited together)
  • some base tracks were filmed very well (e.g. the base track with the poles)
However, they also said:
  • there could have been a bit more of the kaleidoscope special effect
  • the video looked a bit bland and there could've been more colours
  • the musical glitch (going from the middle-8/bridge into the chorus) could've been fixed a bit better, to make it more seamless
Overall, I am happy with the feedback we received from our target audience.

Ancillary products

After asking my target audience on what they thought of my ancillary products, this is the response I got:
  • although there is not a lot of colour (what they would expect from an electronic advert/album), they thought the colour scheme worked well, as it was simple, but not too crazy and blinding
  • they liked the background graphics, it suited the genre well
  • they liked how the album name was incorporated on the CD itself
However they also said:
  • the pictures could have had a special effect/filter on it, to make it more visually pleasing

Production of Ancillary Products: Second progress

This is how my ancillary products look after rethinking and redesigning them:

I am considering keeping the inside cover the same, because I think it is synergous with the other bits of the ancillary products due to the maroon colour

Planning of Ancillary products: Photo short-list update

These are the new three final photos I will decide to use:

After feeling lost (no pun intended) with my previous design, I decided to take some new photos in hope of finding new design ideas and inspirations. So I will use the top picture for the front cover and make it black&white. I will use the third picture for the advertisement, and if I feel the inside cover needs changing, I will try and incorporate the second photo in there.

Digipak: Peer Review

Audience and Teachers Feedback

Today I showed my first draft of my digipak to one of my friends to get their opinion on it. He said that everything is good except the advertisement as he felt that it is too squashed together. Taking his view on board I will find a way of making more space around the album cover, and all the key information so that it is more appealing.

I also asked group 13 about my digipak they said that the like the use of the imagery with the geometric shapes and the style that it is done in, the use of the white background to allow the font to be really clear, the font used as the compliment one another especially for the LOST and overall they thought that it suits the genre and not much improvements to be made.

When I asked my teacher, she was impressed with the design and thought that it I was very professional, how with the album front cover she felt that the bottom of the image of Shenaya was very sharp and felt that it need to be fixed in a way that it fades in or has the same effect like the one on the advertisement.

Planning of Ancillary products: DIGIPAK UPDATE

After having my pitch with Rebecca and doing some research, I've decided to scrap the handwritten thank you note for my left-inside panel, as that was more going into the pop genre (not what I was going for!). So I have now decided to have a more detailed track information there instead, possibly with a behind-the-scenes photo as the background.

Digipak Influences

When designing my album cover design I was inspired by the composition of this album for Annie Mac Presents 2013 I wanted to have Shenaya's face as the centerpiece with the text above and below the vector. The design of Annie Mac is very simple and you can see that it looks like her. My design is very intricate with her face but you can still see her clearly.

For the geometric portrait I was inspired with designs like this, I felt that a design like this would really work with the genre of dance/electronic to give it a dynamic look to it. Having it consistently would make the audience get used to seeing Shenaya in this style.
