Research: Review of previous student

When looking through previous students music videos. One video i particularly liked was group 11 from last year. The song they used was Passenger- Let her go. From the video the intended audience is for adults, or people who have experience an heartbreak. The genre of the song is folk rock/ indie pop and is shown the variety of shot types, Mes-en-scene and the editing. In the video there is a clear narrative and structure to go with. The way the shots where framed was really good with the rule of thirds being applied to every shot. For some of the moving shots the camera wasn't held properly but in a way it made it seem more natural, one example of this is when the camera is following the girl (1:40). There was also a repetition of close ups of him singing or playing the guitar which shows they used good base tracks so when it came to editing it was more seamless. The locations used really suited the genre of the music, It was properly thought out and really looked like a music video. When it came to the editing it was very clear and followed Goodwin's theory of illustration in music videos. The guy who singing is both the performer and narrator and the girl represented as someone we can't live without as he's reminiscing what could have been. The use of the fast forward when the guy is standing in front of the traffic was a good editing to show how he's waiting for something to happen. Also the lip syncing was on time and to the pace of the song. However the cuts isn't edited to the beat of the song which is good as we get a better understanding of the narrative rather that having really fast cuts that doesn't suit the genre.
