Research: Todays lesson (basics)

In todays lesson I learnt the basic of music videos (marketing product). During the lesson I learnt four new phrases: codes & conventions, product placement, media language and genre narrative. Codes & conventions are the technical, symbolic and sound (song) elements in a music video for example the shot types, the clothing and the song itself. Product placement is advertising – when a product is promoted by being placed in the video, for example Beats by Dre.  Genre narrative is everything that happens in a music video for example the storyline, perspective, representations, message and events.

Another thing that I have learnt is important to use the correct generic signifiers for different genres because it music appeal to the audience from that set of audience. For example a RnB video would be expected to have expensive clothes, cars and beautiful women because those are all generic signifiers for RnB.
